A survey of 1000 UK adults carried out by Park Resorts to discover the UK’s favourite coastal attraction named the Cornwall landmark St Michael’s Mount as their favourite place to visit. Close to our 5-star cottages in Cornwall, the Mount is a fantastic place for a day out with the family.
The attraction topped the list with 15% of the votes, followed by Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire with 9% of the votes, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Receiving 8% of the votes, Blackpool Pleasure Beach was the third top attraction.
Scottish respondents named Blackpool Pleasure Beach as their favourite, and London residents named Brighton Pier as their favourite coastal attraction, receiving 25% of the votes in the capital.
Other coastal attractions voted for included Blackpool Tower, Holy Island in Northumberland, the White Cliffs of Dover, the Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare and Beachy Head at Eastbourne.
Kay Knight, the marketing manager for Park Resorts, said: “We are passionate about getting families to explore our beautiful coastline and spending more time outdoors. We were surprised but delighted to see that St Michael’s Mount was the favourite coastal attraction of the UK; it’s a beautiful location with a fascinating history.”
St Michael’s Mount, in Mount’s Bay near Marazion can be accessed by a causeway at low tide and by boat at high tide. The island is home to a stunning medieval castle, which kids will love to roam the maze of rooms and wander the century-old corridors. On sunny days, the beautiful gardens are great to explore, and the milder micro-climate of the Mount means all sorts of unlikely plants flourish.
Before heading back to mainland Cornwall, take the time to look around the village and harbour. The village perfectly captures a lost time in history, rich in stories of fishing and sailing. Tours through the village will recall the history and what life is like today.
Why not take a trip to the island during your stay at our 5-star cottages in Cornwall during the October half term? Guided tours through the castle are available, along with treasure quests and storytelling the kids are sure to love!
