Stunning Cornish beaches feature in Poldark

March 17th, 2015

The world is abuzz with talk of Poldark at the moment, in particular after Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) went skinny dipping in Sunday Night’s episode.

That scene – which is being compared to the 1995 Mr Darcy Wet Shirt moment that has gone down in history (and Bridget Jones’ Diary) – was filmed at beautiful Porthgwarra Beach, which is around 45 minutes drive from our luxury self-catering Cornwall cottages here at The Valley. Just along the coast from its’ better known relative Porthcurno, Porthgwarra was once a fishing hamlet and boats used to launch from the slipway that leads down to the small sandy cove. Dolphins and Basking Sharks are often seen in the area, and there is a cave on the beach for all you intrepid explorers. On summer evenings you can watch bats fly in and out of caves. Being south facing, this beach catches the best of the sunshine all day long and with the pale sand and stunningly clear sea that the area is known for, Porthcurno and Porthgwarra are often mistaken for places in the Caribbean.
