On Saturday 25th July, between 9am and 4pm, Lemon Quay in Truro will be taken over by tractors, traditional countryside crafts, children’s activities, a local produce market, street food stalls and live entertainment.
Nigel Ekins, Chairman of Truro Farmers Market, explained the importance of the event, saying: “This will be a fun day out for the whole family; it’s also a chance for us to celebrate the bounty of the countryside and emphasise the essential role of local farms in food production to a new generation.”
Large and small modern tractors, plus a vintage model, will be on display for visitors to take a closer look, while for a hands-on experience you can try milking a cow (although not a real one!) Skilled crafts, including thatching, will be demonstrated by experts, and visitors can also learn about beekeeping and the essential role of bees in the farming cycle.
Threemilestone’s Young Farmers group will be giving out information and presenting a talk called ‘Where Does Your Food Come From’ to encourage more people to support Cornish producers by shopping locally and choosing seasonal ingredients.
Meanwhile for children, a ‘woodland creche’ will be provided by Miraclewood Outdoor C.I.C – a Community Interest Company who organise outdoor after school sessions, holiday clubs and a Forest School. The organisers would love to see children’s pictures of a farm – any brought in on the day will be displayed at the Miraclewood stall.
Children will also be entertained by free face painting and the chance to meet an adventurous group of ducklings and chickens, who have made their way to the city to take part in this special event.
The regular producers of Truro Farmers Market will be out in force, with local meats and cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables, sustainable seafood, plants and flowers, wines, spirits, locally-made juices, plus homemade sauces and preserves – all available to buy – with street food on offer too.
Aside from being a great day out for Cornwall families on the first day of the school holidays, the event will also be recommended to those enjoying luxury child friendly holidays in Cornwall at The Valley, just ten minutes away by car.
