As autumn settles in, Cornwall hosts many fun and exciting events to enjoy! From Halloween festivities to oyster festivals, there is plenty to do. We take a look at some of the best events taking place in October so that you don’t miss a thing! With October half-term also taking place during this period, we will look at some events to entertain both you and the kids.
Taking place at the Eden Project as part of their art festival, the last chance to paint weekend is an event hosted by artist John Dyer. The aim of the event is to inspire children to connect to the natural world and tribal culture. John aims to achieve this through the universal language and power of art! The event educates children on endangered landscapes, animals, plants and people, including the Amazon rainforest. Children can ask John questions and get answers there and then from the master himself! The event will run from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, and there will be an array of workshops taking place over the weekend for the whole family to enjoy.
Taking place at the magnificent Regal Theatre in Redruth, this event is a series of fascinating ocean films so you can learn and explore all about the big blue! Sit back and witness some incredible oceanography and see the sea like you never have before. The event is in aid of celebrating those who dedicate their lives to the ocean, from divers and surfers to swimmers and oceanographers.
What better way to celebrate a holiday to the seaside than attending an oyster festival? Get a real flavour for the local produce! Here you will find cooking demonstrations, oyster shucking competitions and many tasty oysters to try. There will also be Betty Stogs who is the queen of Cornish ales and the infamous Falmouth Marine Band! It is an excellent day out, and visitors can help raise many for local charities.
Hosted at the Eden Project, this event is for those aged seven to eleven years old. Perfect to keep the little ones entertained, this event will include physical and practical challenges, sure to burn off some of their energy. There will also be crafts and creativity sessions as well as some campfires and time to play with friends, both old and new!
Camel Creek is an adventure park in Wadebridge and in October, they are hosts of Cornwall’s biggest Halloween event! Perfect for celebrating the spooky season, Camel Creek features many scary features at their park, from the Witch’s grotto to trick and treats. There will also be escaped prisoners around the park, and there are prizes up for grabs for those who can help capture them. Also, for every child that attends the park, they will receive a free pumpkin! Carving kits are available to get crafting some spooky masterpieces to take home with you.
