Nanjizal Cove

Location: Penzance, TR19 6JJ

Some spots are just too astounding to be anything but magic. One such location is the magnificent Nanjizal Cove on the southwest coast of Cornwall.

The most notable aspect of this remote spot is the natural rock arch situated at the southern end of the beach. Commonly known as the Song of the Sea Cave, some believe it to be haunted by mermaid spirits. It certainly has an otherworldly beauty that will make you believe in magic all over again.

The Most Haunted Places in Cornwall by The Valley

Rocky Valley

Location: Tintagel, PL34 0BB

Tintagel is full of mythical energy, being the home of the legendary King Arthur stories. However, there’s a place near the iconic Tintagel Castle that is just as mysterious.

While the National Trust-owned Rocky Valley offers fantastic woodland and countryside walks for any who visit, that’s not why it’s made our list. What makes this place so fascinating is the rock carvings in the stones, which could date as far back as the Bronze Age.

The most notable of these carvings are the two that have since been named the Rocky Valley Labyrinths. The two carvings consist of concentric circular lines in the same style as the turf mazes from the medieval period.

St. Nectan’s Glen

Location: Tintagel, PL34 0BE

Website

Another mystical spot in the Tintagel area, St. Nectan’s Glen has become something of a sacred place in the world of witchcraft. A deep, seemingly forgotten woodland leads to a magnificent 60-foot waterfall that has created a striking hole in the rocks through which the water passes.

It is believed that an old chapel on the grounds was once inhabited by two witches, who were blamed for all manner of misfortunes. Nowadays, a new building has been constructed to serve as a place of remembrance. Many people visit to leave tokens such as ribbons as an act of worship or to remember someone they’ve lost.

There’s also a cafe on site, as well as a gift shop serving all manner of mystical treasures.
